The Just Are Called To Walk By Faith
I had plans to teach school full-time this year. The contract was signed, yet there was an alarm in my spirit that I would not be able to fully commit. There was an inner knowing that other things were on the horizon. I had begun to book voiceover projects consistently earlier in the year, so I was already experiencing a paradigm shift in how I wanted my time to be invested in other projects. I understand grace, and entering into the finished works. I’ve never been the type to stress over trying to make something happen. I contemplate, get clarity, take action and then in my heart, I consider that which I desire to be already done. This year, I chose to walk by faith and as a result I have gained more with less effort.
I prayed a simple prayer. I said, “Lord, I want to make good money this summer as well as next semester without having to work hard to get it.” I would truly rather for God to handle things than for me than to try and figure it all out. This philosophy works for me.
I turned down the full-time teaching position and I immediately started receiving calls to ghostwrite for clients. I also began to book voiceover jobs with big clients like: Avon Cosmetics (the spot ran digitally internationally), Prudential, and even a Grocery store chain. For this one grocery store chain, I recorded over 10 different spots for Radio spots, Facebook, and more. I also began freelance writing more. The increase came forth and with little effort. There was growth without stress and agitation. My expectations were exceeded in 2018.
Always Let Peace Be Your Guide
Proverbs 10:22 states “The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it”. If you actually listen to your heart and spirit, you will always know when you are on the right path. Peace accommodates purpose. There will be no stress or confusion. This is not to say that there will never be: distractions, jealous detractors and trials. These comes with the territory, but they don’t have more power than the good plans in store for your life and future. Before the summer ended, I had entered into the world of entertainment journalism and it has been quite a delight. I don’t have a strategy or plan for what will happen next for me in this area. However, I do plan on continuing to practice gratitude for every little thing that comes my way. I will keep showing up, smiling, learning as I move along, and stay available for whatever happens next. I’ve settled in my heart to let peace continue to be my guide.
Always Remain Grateful While In Expectation
I never anticipated that as an educator and creative that I would get the opportunity to interview Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish and ask them their own personal thoughts about special education. I did not plan to ask Will Packer and Malcom Lee about perpetuating stereotypes. I was invited to a roundtable where I was able to discuss race, culture and police brutality with Spike Lee and NYC other journalists. I didn’t foreknow that I would be able to tell China McClain how much of an impact that her Disney shows made on my little girl in the past. As a result of divine alignment, my daughter had the opportunity to interview Benedict Cumberbatch and other cast members of “The Grinch”. I’ve had phone conversations with some of my favorite actresses and directors of all time, and so many other lovely things that have come to fruition. My daughter and I were even in a national commercial for Mickey Mouse’s 90thBirthday Spectacular! Such a fun sweet memory to have with her.
I know that I am in the right place at the right time. I am so thankful for where I am right now. As an individual and as a collective unit within my family.
I am thankful for my mind. I am thankful for creativity. I am thankful for health. I am thankful for my life. While I have hope and expectation for tomorrow, I am so thankful to be right where I am today.
As we step into 2019, I feel compelled to declare: let faith take you, where self-effort can’t. If you are ever unsure of what to do, measure the amount of peace around you. If there are things disturbing your peace, remove those things for a season. Let gratitude keep you at ease, when you feel anxious about what is to come next.
Always remember that “today” is truly a present. Don’t waste it! I have no idea what 2019 has in store, but I’m choosing to walk by faith.
Xoxo,
Lynnette
